edACCESS Listserv

edACCESS members can join our listserv, which is hosted by EDUCAUSE. The listserv provides a convenient method to ask for help from other members, to ask for recommendations and experiences with specific vendors, to advertise job openings, and to spread the word about appropriate resources and upcoming events. Message traffic is highly focussed, and EDUCAUSE maintains excellent spam suppression. Discussion is monitored by EDUCAUSE staff and by a volunteer EDUCAUSE member for adherence to the general guidelines described below. Subscribers who violate these guidelines may receive a cautionary notice from EDUCAUSE. Continuing violations may result in blocking of the offending e-mail address.

Appropriate Use

  • Dialogue should be focused on managerial and technical issues and be conducted in a courteous, professional tone.
  • We strongly recommend that all postings be signed with the subscriber’s name and e-mail address.
  • Personal messages should be sent directly to an individual’s e-mail address, not to the list (check the TO field one more time before you SEND).
  • Postings should not be written in all-capital letters, nor should they be classified as “Important.”

Unacceptable Use

Obscenity or profanity and inflammatory language are not acceptable on this list. If these types of communication should occur, subscribers should address complaints or protests directly to the offending subscriber and/or to the EDUCAUSE staff for appropriate action rather than aggravating the situation by focusing group discussion on it.

Promotional Messages and Advertising

This discussion group is educational in nature and not intended for promotional announcements, advertising, product-related press releases, or other commercial use. Past reactions by subscribers indicate that such postings are usually self-defeating.

Announcements

Members may occasionally use discussion groups for announcements of non-commercial conferences, publications, and other non-commercial resources of general interest to other subscribers. The subject line should clearly identify the topic of the message; the message body should be kept short and should contain contact information for more details.

Endorsements

Endorsements are acceptable if in the context of a request for information or sharing of an experience. When the endorsement comes from a representative of a corporate member, any mention of company products or services should be in the context of a reasonable answer to a question posed by another subscriber and should not be blatantly commercial; such postings should include the identifying signature of the person posting the message.
